A Mind Full of Art | Pieter Bruegel the Elder's 'Tower of Babel'

ART-BASED FILMS

Experience 20 minutes of art-based mindfulness.

People typically spend about 15-30 seconds looking at a painting in museums. But psychologists reckon it takes around 20 minutes to really appreciate a work of art. And that's the amount of time that many mindfulness practitioners recommend for reducing feelings of stress and anxiety.

So, in this first episode of A Mind Full of Art, sit back, take a few deep breaths, and enjoy Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s 'Tower of Babel', set to a 60 bpm soundtrack designed to reduce the stress hormone cortisol, and release positivity hormone oxytocin. However long you spend with it, we hope you'll leave feeling a little more relaxed and more in touch with your thoughts and feelings.

Painted around 1560, the Biblical tale symbolises mankind's blind trust in the unbridled possibilities of technology. God's punishment of this arrogance is a reminder of man's insignificance and mortality. Perhaps, in today's modern world, we would do well not to place so much faith in technology. What do you think?
